SECOND

LIFE

WORKSHOPS

Our mission is to use experiential workshops that prompt people to examine, in light of their life experiences and deepest inclinations, what a meaningful second life would be for them. We  also introduce a practical, non-religious way for people to think and talk about the spiritual dimensions of such transitions as they navigate into and through their new life.

WELCOME TO

LA SEGUNDA VIDA!

The idea for La Segunda Vida (second life) was inspired by a celebration in Asian cultures of a "second birthday" which both honors one’s achievements to date, and ushers in one’s second life and new role in the community.

The workshops offered by La Segunda Vida were created based on our own experiences with and lessons from significant life changes - the flow between separation, transition, and incorporation. Our facilitators have themselves experienced the changes wrought by the death of a partner and family members, divorce, career changes, relocation to new cities and abroad, and health scares. We created workshops and retreats that help you navigate your new course, whether you are preparing for or have already entered into such changes in your life.

La Segunda Vida introduces you to a language that helps people to recognize and communicate about the functions of the soul. Having a non-moralistic and non-religious framework to talk about these experiences in one’s life is especially relevant and meaningful for people who are about to enter or already going through – or helping others go through –  significant transitions and milestones which are inherently soulful events.

WHAT IS LA SEGUNDA VIDA?

The unique charms of San Cristóbal de las Casas, nestled at 7000 feet in the heart of Chiapas, Mexico, arise from its rich blend of ancient indigenous culture, colonial history, and natural beauty. This picturesque town is renowned for its Spanish colonial architecture, with colorful buildings and cobblestone streets creating an enchanting atmosphere. Yet, what truly sets San Cristobal apart is its deep connection to indigenous communities, including the Tzotzil and Tzeltal Maya people. The town has several vibrant traditional markets, where traditional textiles, jewelry,  handicrafts, and culinary delights - including excellent coffee and chocolate -  showcase the region's cultural diversity and resources. Surrounded by lush mountains and lush forests, the town's natural setting adds to its allure.
San Cristóbal provides a rich and multicultural context in which you can explore what La Segunda Vida means to you. It is the perfect place to explore and reflect upon the pleasures and challenges of living in a different culture. The benefit of a retreat is that you take yourself out of your everyday life so you can reflect on and explore a broader range of perspectives, no matter what you decide is best for you. You will have an opportunity to experience and discuss various types of housing,  shopping,  businesses,  transportation,  and other realities of daily life abroad.  You will have hands-on experiences with the significance of cultural differences  - something that anyone considering a life outside the US needs to experience and appreciate.
